As the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) prepared to meet at the Illinois State Capitol today to vote on Governor J.B. Pritzker’s controversial administrative rule that would allow businesses to be charged with a Class A misdemeanor for violating the stay-at-home order, Pritzker abruptly withdrew the rule that has faced a great deal of public backlash since it was introduced on Friday.
Senator Dan McConchie offered the following response to today’s action:
“Today it was announced that Governor Pritzker will repeal his emergency rule in light of broad opposition to the idea of turning small business owners into criminals. This is an important win in the fight for people’s rights during this pandemic. This is clear proof that when call out governmental overreach, we can win.
